David Beckham has a Ani L’Dodi Tattoo?!

As Ketubah lovers, we love seeing bits of Jewish tradition and culture in everyday life. We recently stumbled across this photo of David Beckham:

and of course the first thing that jumped out at us… his Ani L’Dodi tattoo! Among his many tattoos, David Beckham got Ani L’Dodi in Hebrew tattooed on his arm — and it’s no coincidence that it’s right next to the tattoo of his wife, Victoria Beckham. :)

Ani L’Dodi (I am my Beloved, and my Beloved in mine) is a phrase commonly seen on tons of different Ketubahs — everything from super Orthodox Ketubahs to even more modern styles. Many couples that we’ve worked with in the past have even specifically asked to add that phrase into their Ketubah. Such a beautiful and powerful phrase to say to the person you love… it even resonates with those who aren’t of Jewish heritage!

After seeing David Beckham’s tattoo, we were curious to see how many celebrities throughout the world have Hebrew tattoos — and there were a TON! Who knows what reason they have for getting a Hebrew tattoo, but we’d like to think that they find beauty in such an old and culturally rich language. :)

All that to say — it’s awesome to see the impact of Jewish culture and Hebrew language throughout the world! We get so excited when couples come to us wanting a Ketubah and requesting something in Hebrew with a language translation, whether it’s in English, Spanish or even Chinese! There’s nothing quite like a stunning Ketubah to represent the joining of two people’s lives, styles, and even cultures.

If we had to guess, Victoria and David Beckham probably didn’t have a Ketubah for their wedding day, but if they did we can imagine what phrase they would be asking for!

Conservative Text with Lieberman Clause? You Betcha!

One of the most common questions we get is, “Do you have the Conservative Text with the Lieberman Clause, on your Ketubot?” and our response is, “Yes!” — a rounding, “Yes!!”.

Now, lets explain in detail.

First, our big vision is to make sure that we can find your perfect Ketubah text. Your rabbi wants a particular text — we’ll get it!

Second, the conservative text with the Lieberman Clause is our most popular text. So we’re very familiar with it.

Third, what the &!@#(! is it? Let me explain. It’s the traditional Ketubah text that Jews have used for thousands of years, but with one change. The conservative movement in the US didn’t like some of the provisions in the contract — because it gave men more rights in getting a “get” (divorce) than women — so a rabbi at JCS named… wait for it… Rabbi Lieberman added in a clause, that women can equally initiate a divorce. So, this text is basically: the traditional text but with this added sentence.

Sound like it’s on target for you? We’d love to create a conservative ketubah for you, using the Lieberman clause!

Real Weddings: Naomi & Darren

It brings us pure joy to create a work of art that will play an integral role in a couple’s wedding and marriage, and every so often Team Ketubah comes across a couple that we truly bond with. We are beyond excited to share with you the fun details of their wedding and the story behind their happily-every-after — it touched our hearts deeply and we are positive it will do the same for you as well!

Through our time of making Ketubahs for awesome couples, we’ve met quite a few couples that met online! We love hearing their stories because, well… we just love hearing how two people meet, fall in love and spend forever together. Naomi and Darren were no different. eHarmony must have made a great match because next thing you know — we have the pleasure of creating their awesome Ketubah!

Naomi told us all about some of the fun and crazy things they like to do together, like doing the Color Run or going to Monkeyland. She also told us about her beautifully romantic proposal — set at a fancy restaurant that of friend of theirs manages.

Residing in New York, it seemed only fitting that Naomi and Darren wanted the Subway Print No. 1 Ketubah. A Haring Inspired print, this Ketubah definitely contains the urban feel of a big city. And knowing more of Naomi and Darren, we think it’s the perfect fit!

So we had to know — what was their favorite part of the big day?

We didn’t have a traditional sit-down dinner. Instead we did a buffet and people could sit where ever they liked and with whomever they liked throughout the venue. We also had a photobooth, perhaps not unique but definitely a big hit.

Well their wedding looked absolutely stunning. And we love the idea of having a photobooth! To finish off, Naomi filled us in a little bit about their Honeymoon destination, that didn’t include just one place, but TWO!

Part 1 Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (it was February) Part 2 is coming up in about a month, Ireland.

How AWESOME!

From Team Ketubah to Naomi and Darren — Mazel Tov again on your big day! You were both such a pleasure to work with and we feel so honored that we were able to create something so important and meaningful for your wedding. We wish you both a lifetime of adventure, laughter, and love!
