Real Weddings: Abigail & Bryan

It brings us pure joy to create a work of art that will play an integral role in a couple’s wedding and marriage, and every so often Team Ketubah comes across a couple that we truly bond with. We are beyond excited to share with you the fun details of their wedding and the story behind their happily-every-after — it touched our hearts deeply and we are positive it will do the same for you as well!

Abigail and Bryan are another lovely couple that met in the most simplest of ways — JDate! Abigail told us about how Bryan found her profile and they ended up meeting, “We met in person on May 29, 2009 and have been inseparable ever since!

As for the propsal?

Bryan proposed on the top of Monte Solaro in Capri, Italy while we were on vacation. It was perfect.

Well — it doesn’t get much more romantic than that! We love hearing about how couples meet and fall in love. And even better, we love to hear about their crazy side as well!

We were once watching TV and saw a commercial for a new Sonic hotdog. We looked up where the closest one was to our home at the time (about a 30 minute drive from our Manhattan apartment), rented a car, and got ourselves some Sonic. Worth it! :)

From mountain top proposals in Italy to 30 minute drives and car rentals for fast food grub (– hey we get it, we’re total foodies too!!), we were so in love with Abigail and Bryan’s love story, that we were dying to hear a bit about their wedding and honeymoon:

We wrote our own vows and didn’t share them with each other before the ceremony. It turned out that Bryan and I had written VERY similar vows and referenced many of the same experiences and inside jokes we’ve had over the years. Many people remarked on how similar our vows were, and how it’s further proof we’re meant to be!

Abigail and Bryan live in New York, so it seemed only fitting that they chose The IRT Today Ketubah for their big day!

And as for the honeymoon? “We honeymooned in Thailand, Cambodia and, Laos. It was amazing and we were reluctant to come home…”

Well we probably wouldn’t want to come home either! :)

From Team Ketubah to Abigal & Bryan — you were both such a pleasure to work with and we were beyond honored that we could create something so important and meaningful for your big day. We wish you both years of excitement, love, and spontaneous, fun adventure!

Désormais en Français: C’est une Kétouba

We have a happy announcement: we have just launched a ketubah website for TINAK… in French. Anyone in France or Montreal (or anywhere in Quebec… or anywhere else they speak French. Are there Jews in Senegal?) — we have a great source of ketubot for you!

Check out our new site here: C’est une Kétouba!

The name, C’est une Kétouba, is French for, “It’s a Ketubah!”. Yes, it’s the opposite of our (ironic) name, “This is not a Ketubah” — but we decided that with our French couples, it would be clearer and easier to be very direct and explicit. And cheesy!

Parlez-Vous Français? Take a look at C’est une Kétouba!

We Shipped our First Ketubah to… Singapore

We have just shipped our first Ketubah to… Singapore.

We are always excited to send one of our Ketubahs to a new country for the first time.

One of our goals is to create a Ketubah for the one Jew in every country. There’s one Jew in Indonesia? We’d love to create your Ketubah. There’s one Jew in Madagascar? We’d love to create your Ketubah!

Going one country at a time, we’d love to create a Ketubah for each and every Jew everywhere.

Singapore is particularly excited. I’ve personally been fascinating by Singapore for years and have wanted to go there. Its organization and efficiency seems to be the opposite of Latin America — a case study in contrasts.

When I do go, I’ll be sure to call our couple there :)

Real Weddings: Anna & Andrew Gibson

It brings us pure joy to create a work of art that will play an integral role in a couple’s wedding and marriage, and every so often Team Ketubah comes across a couple that we truly bond with. We are beyond excited to share with you the fun details of their wedding and the story behind their happily-every-after — it touched our hearts deeply and we are positive it will do the same for you as well!

To sum up the beautiful love story between Anna and Andrew Gibson, Anna sent us this awesome video of their proposal (in Tel-Aviv!!!):

So just how did this completely adorable (and PERFECT) couple meet each other?

We actually met on Match.com and cancelled our accounts after two weeks, I was Andy’s first and only date he ever had from match, that was a 2nd date for me.

Awwwww! We love that! Anna continued on to tell us that Andrew proposed in Tel-Aviv after asking permission from her parents — her best friend and sister were with them too! It’s not often couples will actually send us video of their proposals, so we couldn’t have been more ecstatic to feature Anna and Andrew on our “Real Weddings” section. They were such a fun couple to work with, and ended up picking one of Team Ketubah’s favorite designs — The Ani L’Dodi Vibrant Mosaic Ketubah. Which we thought would look particularly stunning with their AMAZING multi-cultural themed wedding:

We combined Jewish and Scottish traditions and created our ceremony. We have a Houpa that was custom made by my sister. It has Celtic love knot, Hebrew writing and of course both Lions! The Scottish rampant lion and Jerusalem lion. We had quartets that sang both  Hebrew and Scottish songs, and of course we had a piper! Our favors were a mini bottle of Scotch (for Scotland) and a jar of honey (for Israel). We loved every minute of it.

Amazing! And just for fun we wanted to know — what’s the MOST ridiculous thing they’ve ever done together as a couple? Anna gushed, “Oh we have lots of those! But the best one was jumping into freezing water in Feb for charity, we were both dressed as bride and groom”.

As we said before — Anna and Andrew were such a pleasure to work with. Between there adorable love story to all the fun details of their wedding, we couldn’t have been more excited to play a role in their big day. We wish you both a lifetime of love, adventure, and happiness!

A TINAK First: We Made a Ketubah in German!

We have created (and offer to our couples) Ketubot in many languages, from the traditional Aramaic to French, Chinese, and everything in-between.

And we’re proud to now offer a Ketubah in…. German!

Having studied the German language for many years (and one of my all-time favorite pieces of writing being Mark Twain’s analysis of the German language) I think German is wonderful. Yes, there was a deeply evil event almost a century ago — and here at Tinak, we believe that, if we were to boycott and hate everyone who ever hurt the Jews, we would have no one to talk to.

We have taken the German text, and added it to our standard text offerings.

Let us know if you want a Ketubah in German!

Great Holidays to Get Married On

There’s a wonderful list on the Chabad site of great dates for Jews to get married on. They include:

  • Channukah
  • Tuesdays (Who knew!)
  • Tu B’Shevat — Makes sense, it’s the holiday of trees!
  • Rosh Chodesh — The first of the month

Great dates for weddings, all!

Some dates that are NOT great for Jewish weddings:

  • Purim
  • The High Holy Days
  • Fridays (before Shabbat)
  • Shabbat

Want a Ketubah to match your Wedding date? Just ask!

Ketubah Love: “We Knew it Would Be Special but Had no Idea it Would Be So Incredible!”

We received it and opened it with the Rabbi on Friday night. We couldn’t believe how gorgeous it was! Other members from the congregation gathered around and everyone including the Rabbi marveled at its beauty. Is that hand painted? We knew it would be special but had no idea it would be so incredible!
