Architecture and Ketubot!

For ages buildings have only served practical purposes, but as time and man’s tastes have evolved, architecture has become a form of art itself. People travel across the world to marvel at man-made wonders in Egypt, Paris, London, Italy and many more wonderful places.

Artists too have flocked back to their towns and cities, from natural landscapes in the countryside, to draw inspiration. Inspiration from man’s creations have seeped into ketubahs today. Each architectural achievement has meaning beyond it’s aesthetic appeal which couples want to bring into their marriage.

Architecture inspired ketubahs are perfect for people who want to build a strong marriage that is beautiful on the outside and solid on the inside. These ketubahs represent enlightenment of the modern age which can battle all storms.

Bridges represent two islands of personalities coming together to form a firm relationship, stronger than concrete and steel, to last not just a lifetime, but forever. The Bridge Ketubah is a great choice for strong-minded couples from completely different backgrounds with a rock solid bond. Their ketubah represents the sea of challenges they have battled and survived.

Art lovers of New York City will appreciate The Guggenheim Ketubah which pays tribute to the culture and pace of life in the Big Apple. The gray background is illuminated by the iconic yellow taxi cabs of the city representing the hustle and bustle residents are only too familiar with.

The Big Benjamin Ketubah in our London Ketubot collection, features one of the cities most widely known architectural pieces: the famous tower bridge. More than a hundred years old, the Victorian bridge is riddled with history and significance. Fans of Bristish culture and art will adore this ketubah.

What identifies a city is its skyline of buildings in all shapes and sizes. The Boston Skyline Ketubah illustrates this perfectly. Reflecting off of the Charles River, the vibrant colors of this design lights up the skyline beautifully, adding an extra touch of romance.

Roses are Red, Ketubahs are Too!

In the aftermath of Valentine’s Day, it’s hard not to notice how much the color red embodies everything and anything associated with love. Red roses and red hearts, a staunch feature of romantic gestures, are used to convey passion and deep commitment between two people.

On popular demand, red makes a regular appearance in our ketubah collections inspired by nature, cities, spices, planets and so much more. They are great for couples who want to stamp their fiery personalities and love onto their ketubahs forever.

Unsurprisingly, the color of love is an auspicious color for marriage, especially in Asian cultures. Indian and Nepalese brides wear red on their wedding day. In Japan and China, brides wear red for good luck and future happiness.

Psychologically, red stirs up feelings of passion and adventure – it also stimulates appetites, which is why you often see red in restaurants! Red ketubahs are very motivating and excite emotions in people to do something positive for their married life.

The color of blood and fire is an emotionally powerful color. It has come to emboss all things which bring out the deepest and intense emotions in a person; ranging from love, desire and passion to energy, war, strength, power, and determination.

Red is not a subdued colour and instantly attracts attention from afar. It is not the color for people who are looking for something to blend in with their surroundings. Red ketubahs stand apart from everything else and bring energy, zeal and excitement to a place. They are perfect for couples who want to display their ketubah at their reception or frame it at home in the living room.

Some interesting ketubahs in red to check out are The Babushkas Ketubah, L’Amour Des Amantes Ketubah, and The Love Ketubah inspired by the iconic Love Sculpture in New York City.

Green Ketubahs, Fresh Ketubahs

Nature’s beauty is incomplete without greenery gushing from every corner. The first glimpses of budding new leaves and fresh grass in spring brings along with it feelings of hope and energy, which linger in the air up until winter and green is still visible.

Green has long been associated with nature, youth, life, vitality, hope and earth. Many couples choose to have their ketubahs in the color of nature to symbolize life and hope for an evergreen relationship.

In different eras and cultures, the color has been a banner for a number of positive causes. In China green is associated with fertility. In the Middle Ages, green was worn by merchant, bankers and the gentry. Today, we use green in traffic lights as a sign of safety and permission.

Many nature inspired ketubahs on This is Not a Ketubah feature green landscapes complete with green trees, leaves and grass. They are perfect for couples who are in touch with mother nature, and want to go forward with their marriage with all the positive feelings they get when they are out in the wild.

“The garden of love is green without limit and yields many fruits other than sorrow or joy. Love is beyond either condition: without spring, without autumn, it is always fresh.” Thirteenth century persian poet Rumi describes love as green in this timeless quote; always fresh, alive and a source of life and energy.

Green ketubahs come in all kinds of artwork and designs. We have several shades of green in the new papercut collection for the modern couple, which combines a unique, two-tone design with two layers of text and art. Spontaneous couples will love the fingerprint ketubahs where you can ask your guests to leave a fingerprint on your ketubah, in different tones of green.

Here at Team Ketubah HQ, we have an exciting announcement we want to share with y’all:

After months of hard work, we’re ready to announce our latest line of unique ketubot: Golden Tree Ketubah.

Secondly, ketubot are expensive to create. But with our new line of ketubot, we’re using a new process that allows to create ketubot, for the same size, that are $130 cheaper than our standard line. These new ketubot will be the most affordable ketubahs on the market.

We’d love to hear your feedback — let us know what you think of Golden Tree Ketubah!

The Tree of Life makes a Ketubah for Life

Trees have been around since forever. No matter how many we chop off, there’s still millions more out there. Trees are home to a world of insects, birds and animals providing shelter and stability to both earth and life on it. People depend on trees for almost everything; from food and protection to shade and firewood for warmth.

It is because of their puissance that trees have now become a symbol of antiquity and enduring strength. They have been featured in Historical ketubahs in intricate patterns and designs to mark stability and strength in a relationship. And the trend still continues on in modern ketubahs today.

The tree of life is a major element in religious mythologies, and is mentioned in the Book of Proverbs. It is associated with wisdom: “[Wisdom] is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her, and happy [is every one] that retaineth her.” (Proverbs 3:13-18)

The Tree of Life has a lot of positive meanings in different eras and religions. In Ancient Egypt, it represented the hierarchical chain of events that brought every thing into existence. In the late Han dynasty, the leaves of the tree are coins and people, while the apex is a bird with coins and the Sun.

Couples who are inspired by trees will love our Tree Ketubah Collection. Trees can either star as the central figure in your ketubah’s decor, or as part of the  landscape in the background.

You can decide how important the values a tree stands for, mean to your relationship and accordingly choose a ketubah that is both great to look at and symbolizes your bond.

The tall wooden plants form an integral part in ketubahs of nature lovers. Some shape their ketubah in the silhouette of a tree, while others have added actual dried leaves to add a touch of something real!

Trees are a gentle reminder of how relationships work; they start life young and weak but grow stronger with time, embedding their growing roots deep into the ground.

When Guests and Ketubahs Mix Well

A wedding is as fun as its guests.

Your friends and family are the life of the party in the most literal sense. They are (unofficially) in charge of making your wedding the best day of your life. They hold the fort down and keep the party going through the good and the bad times.

Newlyweds are very appreciative of all the help and support they receive at one of the most stressful times of their lives. They pick up the pieces when things go crazy and make their dreams a reality. They say ‘a friend in need is a friend indeed’, and that couldn’t be more closer to the truth when they pull through in your moments of need in your wedding.

Couples show their love and appreciation for the help of their guests and friends with a thank you note …

… or a ketubah.

Yes, your ketubah! Your wedding guests can stay a part of your marriage for as long as your ketubah survives. There are many cool and unique ways for incorporating your guests into your ketubah.

A big favorite with our clients (and one of my personal favorites!) are the fingerprint ketubahs. These ketubahs hold an outline of a tree framing the body of text. Your guests add color to the ketubah by filling out the bare trees with stamped fingerprints in the place of leaves.

Place stamp pads with colors of your choice at the entrance beside the ketubah and have someone ask your guests to add their mark on the way in. You don’t need to stick to the natural color of green, but add shades from autumn or spring, or go completely random.

Other fun ways to incorporate your guests is to ask them to add a short message or sign their name inside a thick hollow border of the document. Be creative and you’ll find no shortage of ideas to make your guests a part of your ketubah, the same way they are a part of the ceremony – and yes, you can find many cool ideas from Pinterest to help you get started ;)

Big-time Artist or Amateur Doodler, Design your Own Ketubah!

There is no shortage of options in the hundreds of templates to choose a ketubah from. From the ton of colours, themes and landscapes available on This is Not a Ketubah alone, the choice is endless. Each more stunning than the last. But for those looking for something unique and personal, a customized ketubah is the way to go!

You can set an appointment with a professional artist to create a ketubah from the ground up just for you. Lay out your vision and inspirations, and collectively you, your partner and artist will produce a customized masterpiece. Creating a custom ketubah takes a lot of effort, but the reward is priceless when it serves you faithfully for a lifetime.

But how about you go one step further and eliminate the services of a professional entirely? Whether you’re make a living off your art or a doodler who’s sketches have never seen the light of day, everybody can draw and paint. Get creative or dig up some old drawings from both your childhood and use it to plaster your ketubah.

Joint art projects are the best. You could divide up elements of a painting and finish it up together. Or take a couple of art classes a few months before your wedding to uncover hidden talents and to get inspired. Not only is art therapeutic, but you’ll always look back on your ketubah as the time you both bonded over creating two parts of a whole!

Go through your old files and school projects, and you might discover some hidden gems from your childhood ;) Make your past a part of your future by incorporating them on your ketubah. If you have children, then get inspired by Angelina Jolie and ask your kids to draw something for your ketubah (instead of on the bride’s veil!).
