Old Jews Telling (Ketubah) Jokes: Directions!

Few things are as exciting as Old Jews Telling Jokes, especially when it has to do with the trials of everyday life! Team Ketubah is all about adding a little bit of humor, and no one can tell a joke better than Grandpa, or Zeiti if you will!

Why do we love this video so much? Well, you have to watch until the very end to really love it. The actor? Someone’s grandfather! The accent? Incredibly authentic, Old World all the way. Authentic Old Jew clothes? Check! Nothing is quite as cool as spending time with your grandparents, even if it takes a little bit of Maneschevitz to really get the room rolling. We love to laugh as much as the next guy (and girl), so go ahead– push play!

Mixing the traditional with the modern? Bam! Old Jews Telling Jokes brings the modern technology by recording all of the latest (well, oldest) jokes using the highest quality sound studio, just like This Is Not a Ketubah only use Professional ENDURA PREMIUM paper to create your gorgeous Ketubah.

Looking for bold, beautiful colors? As bold as the jokes on Old Jews Telling Jokes? Our Ketubot aren’t just incredibly modern, they’ll make your parents and grandparents kvell (in the best way possible!).

Every Ketubah couple we talk with seems to be looking to get away from a dull, cookie cutter Ketubah Text and are looking for something really out of the box. Our Reform and Interfaith Ketubah Texts aren’t just fresh, but meaningful. We know our couples feel a deep connection, and we want our Ketubot to reflect the love, commitment, and excitement for life that lies ahead of them.

So, watch some funny Jews telling jokes, and be ready to smile when you see the gorgeous, bold colors all around This Is Not a Ketubah. We can’t wait to get started!!

Gold Shoes Gorgeous Ketubah

Gold shoes on the Big Day? Nothing wrong with being a little creative!! So your wedding is 6 months away but you’re a planner. You plan things. And that means your dress is picked out, jewelry perfectly selected, but something is missing—the shoes! Should you go with something white, simple, and traditional? Maybe the more traditional and conservative side, or really live it up on the bold side with a pair of flashy gold sequined shoes?

If you’ve taken a look at the ‘kicks’ above, you know that they’re eye catching, with fantastic color and bold design, yet a simple touch. Without heels, they give an air of traditional, but still miles away from the strappy black shoes you always thought were just a little tacky.

Team Ketubah asks: why not? And if you’re picking out your wedding shoes six months in advance of your wedding, there’s plenty of time to think about creating a gorgeous custom ketubah, inspired by your shoes! Alright, alright, we understand that’s going a bit farther than the average couple might be into, but we’re excited to bring out the best in any wedding! From a gorgeous Ketubah with traditional pomegranate themes to those based on your wedding’s color scheme, we’re all about creating the perfect mix of modern and traditional for a Ketubah that you’ll absolutely love.

The shoes may be long gone after your big day, but your Ketubah will hang happily on your way as you grow together and raise a family. And why not capture the beauty of those beauties for the long haul?

Of course, there’s no reason that both Bride & Groom shouldn’t be in the fun. So sit down together and think hard about what you’d love to see on your dream Ketubah, from tree-themed traditional Ketubot to something completely unique and 100% original, Team Ketubah is here to make your dream reality!

Thanks to Elizabeth of Lowe House Creative for some great shots of these beautiful shoes!!

More Traditional Themes & Modern Twists!

New Year, New Ketubot! Now that 2012 is officially here Team Ketubah is excited to continue combining the old with the new and the traditional with the modern! Over the coming days, you can check out some of our latest designs, with inspirations as varied as our couples! From our more classic designs inspired by Chagall and Picasso to our own creative and abstract designs, we can’t wait to hear what gets our couples talking!

If you check out our Modern Ketubah Gallery today, you’ll find some of the latest designs we’ve been working on. Integrating some of the most meaningful symbols from Jewish tradition, we’re adding a new (maybe even new-age!) spin to create awesome Ketubot you and your fiance will positively flip over!

From scenes of a thoroughly modern Shabbat (think Lichtenstein-ish!) to the dazzling labyrinth of the Old City in Jerusalem and vibrant Hamsa that approaches psychedelic (in a good way!), our latest Ketubot don’t just call on the modern styles of art that we love so much, but speak to our fondest memories of growing up Jewish. As Team Ketubah dreams up our next design, we’re flooded with the memories of our Bar-and-Bat Mitzvahs (but trying our hardest to hold on to only the good ones from Hebrew School!), Jewish life as young adults (we’re still there, actually), and the artwork our parents had growing up.

We’re also excited to offer some beautiful Reform, Interfaith, and Humanist Ketubah Texts with absolutely positive feedback! We’re strong believers in the fact that your Ketubah should be about so much more than just signing a paper and hiding it away. Its words should match its beauty, and it can take its place as a center piece of your home!!

You can check out all of our latest designs, including those inspired by more Traditional Themes…we can’t wait to hear your feedback!

Ketubah Couple: Jenn & Matt’s Movie Poster Ketubah!

Team Ketubah is all about exciting challenges. A few months ago we chatted Jenn who had an idea for a Ketubah her fiance Matt would go crazy about. Since he was passionate about 1960s music and loves the 1960s style posters for bands and concerts, why not create a Ketubah they would absolutely love?

Officiated by Rabbi Anne White, the Nature Rabbi, we worked together with Jenn & Matt on making sure every part of their Ketubah was 100% perfect. From using their unique color pallet to match their wedding, a special Ketubah text, and integrating their names into the artwork itself (don’t see it? look closely at the hands!), this music-inspired Ketubah was truly an exciting piece to work on!

Here’s what the couple had to say themselves:

Again, thank you so much. We LOVE our Ketubah and were so happy with your patient and detail-oriented service. Our best to your entire team and loved ones during this season of lights, love and miracles. Happy Hanukkah! -Jenn & Matt Trehub

To see the full-size version of the Ketubah, click on the picture below! We’re thrilled to have been part of such a special day and create something truly unique!

Interested in creating your own Commissioned Ketubah? We’d love to hear about your ideas and get started with a Ketubah Brainstorming seession! Drop us a line!

A Big Bang Hanukkah: The Eighth Night!

Historically, Judaism has had some great debates. Whether at the end of the day you agree of Shamai or Hillel, one thing is for sure: Tonight is the 8th night of Hannukah! With all nine of the candles lit (who could forget about the Shamash?), we couldn’t think of a better way to end the holiday with a bang than the cheer of YouTube’s favorite Jewish cover-band, the Maccabeats!

Check out the Maccabeats hit Miracle here:

This Jewish all-star group seems to bring it all together: clever name, hilarious music, and a touch of retro flare! If you’re one for pop culture, you can even catch a cameo by Big Bang Theory’s Mayim Bialik! You’ll recognize her as Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler on the hit NBC show. A bit of trivia from Team Ketubah: Mayim actually holds a real PhD in Neuroscience (just like she does on the show!).

An inspiration for all of Team Ketubah, the Maccabeats do it again with another catchy tune and a modern spin of a traditional classic. Last year’s video Candlelight had over 6.3 million views, and there’s still time to beat that before Hanukkah is over!

From the bold colors of their videos to creative artistic twists, we absolutely love the spontaneity and hilarity of every new Maccabeats video. We can’t wait until the next one… we hope it comes before next year’s Hanukkah!

Here’s to hoping that you and your fiance enjoyed the holiday with a healthy portion of Latkes, but didn’t let the oil stain too much! As we enter 2012, This Is Not a Ketubah wishes you and your fiance the best for the New Year– and maybe days as exciting and bright as a Maccabeats video!

The Bubbe Shows You How: Latkes & Ketubahs Edition!

Like every good Jewish Holiday, Hannukah proudly sports its own traditional food that would just seem out of place any other time of year! Cue Cooking With The Bubbe: Latke Edition! Team Ketubah has always been a fan of mixing the traditional with the modern, so our latest find really got us excited! Grandmothers on YouTube? Count us in!

Maybe you’ve always left the Latke cooking to your Bubbe, or just never had the courage to get close enough to a hot frying pan to make the Jewish delicacy yourself, but there’s no time like the present! Latke ingredients can mostly be picked up at the corner store, and won’t run you more than about $15 to feed all of your friends! Seriously, the yield on this recipe is high, and everyone will leave feeling the good-old-oil-saturated-joy of Hannukah!

There is something about Latkes that just puts Team Ketubah in a nostalgic mood. Is it the warm crispness on a cold winter day? The golden color and joy of vanquishing Persian foes? Maybe it’s just the dollop of apple sauce that gets us!

Looking to take a classic recipe and add a modern, colorful twist? The Bubbe’s got you covered! Try subbing out the potatoes for zucchini and carrots. Before you know it, you’ll be whipping up an awesome creation that will make The Tribe proud!

Of course, we have to throw a hat-tip over to Allison at The Wedding Yentas. Full of wit, insight, and some smart ideas for Jewish weddings and life, we can’t stop reading! We wouldn’t have found this great video without her!

You can check out The Bubbe: Kosher Cooking, Jewish Wisdom, and Yiddishkeit for more cooking tips. You’ll feel right at home!

Challah Back: The Challah Aficionado’s Ketubah!

Challah Back: It may just be the oldest “Too Cool for Jew School” joke in the book, but we couldn’t resist! It’s no secret that Jewish life cycle events are dictated by all sorts of traditional foods, from your Bubbe’s kitchen to your new apartment in the City. But whether you’re more of the Sephardi type who prefers to eat rice on Passover or more of a Gefilte Fishy Jew, some things are universal among the Tribe.

For starters: The love of our people’s bread Challah! Braided golden and crisp (throw some raisins in, too!), the Challah has long spoken to the Jewish people as a symbol of our tradition, culture, and identity. Confidently holding down Shabbat dinners and the most delicious french-toast you’ve ever had on Sunday morning, it is much more than just bread for Friday Night. It’s an identity.

Check out this incredible shot, posted by the great ladies over at The Wedding Yentas. Featuring some beautiful photography of Jewish and Interfaith weddings, the Yentas have a great site! We couldn’t help but snag this picture of a Challah so big, it doesn’t even fit inside the frame!

Did the shtetl ever see a Challah this big? Probably not! Even so, we absolutely love the blending of traditional with the modern, and we strive to make all our collective’s Ketubot match both the ancient customs of our people together with the modern bride & groom!

If you love Challah, then why not get creative with your Ketubah, and think about a design inspired by the flaky, golden, delicious-with-chicken feeling of Challah! Alright, maybe we’re going a bit overboard. But there is definitely something to be said about ‘breaking bread’ an important part of your wedding day!

Thanks to Heidi Ryder for these great shots!

Canvas Ketubah Print Options!

Team Ketubah is excited to announce an exciting new way to create your dream Ketubah: Canvas!

Now, we’re thrilled to introduce a new medium to display the Ketubah you absolutely love, whether choosing one of our Standard Ketubot or a 100% unique Commissioned design! Canvas-on-Matboard and Canvas Gallery Wraps are jaw-dropping gorgeous ways to give your Ketubah a beautiful canvas texture you’ll treasure for years!

Canvas-on-Matboard

Details: The Canvas-On-Matboard option mounts your Canvas Ketubah Print onto a stiff backing, ready for framing, giving your Ketubah gallery-level quality with canvas bonded to matboard. The canvas provides the rich texture for your Ketubah print and the matboard gives it a sturdy backing that prepares it for framing or other types of display.

Canvas Gallery Wraps
Details: Unlike prints bonded to canvas, Gallery Wraps are made by printing your Ketubah directly on fine art canvas and wrapping it around a 1.5″ stretcher frame. Our artists will work with the Ketubah design you choose to make it work perfectly with a Gallery Wrap, all the way around!

This is Not a Ketubah is dedicated to getting your Ketubah to your door exactly as you want it–even printed on canvas!

Want to learn more about pricing options or just want to say hello? Drop us a line and we’ll be in touch!

Your Monday Cuteness: “She Doesn’t Love Me”

Every now and then Team Ketubah comes across a truly touching video, and we just couldn’t keep it keep it to ourselves! This short film talked to us on so many levels because it isn’t just incredibly cute, it is also written, directed, and produced by up-and-coming Argentine-Jewish protege Martín Piroyansky (a friend of a friend of a friend– yes, we’ve even met him in the flesh!). It might be a bit on the long side, but wait until the end: a guaranteed tear-jerker.

What’s a Ketubah Collective doing with a blog post titled so contrary to the very documents expressing love, trust, and commitment that we create? Well, you’ll have to see all of No Me Ama, or in English, She Doesn’t Love Me to know why it touches our yiddisha souls.

Creative, beautiful, and inspired, Martín captures the unique and touching way of young love. Calling on the tried-and-true monologue style, this short but oh-so-sweet film proves that love is time-less, through culture, language, and age.

This Is Not a Ketubah is all about harnessing the feelings of our couples, but we can’t quite put our finger on why this video was so exciting and meaningful to us. It could be that the protagonist is a young Jew in love, with a story so similar to many of our friends and family who felt the triumph of getting engaged and preparing for his wedding. Mixing the traditional with the modern, No Me Ama brings ancient emotions to laptops everywhere– and we couldn’t be more excited!

So, whether you look to express your love through traditional documents or more progressive images, colors, and texts, the This Is Not a Ketubah Team is here to help!
